British Ski Center Spain, Sierra Nevada skiing untouched by recession

Monday, February 16th, 2009

In spite of the widespread economical recessions and credit crunch, the British Ski Center based in Sierra Nevada has seen a comparable level of business this season to last year with a slight increase in January. This comes perhaps more of a surprise given the added factor of the Pound Sterling dropping so much against the Euro and making Spain around 30% more expensive than this time last year!

‘We have retained our numbers at 11 ski & snowboard instructors and now have two secretaries working hard at responding to customer reservations, greeting clients and coordinating everyone with their respective instructors. Much of our business is from repeat customers or clients who have been recommended by past customers. Our website has also evidently attracted more business this year to last which is an encouraging sign. This year saw our first increase in prices in 3 years but we have kept them entirely competitive with the other ski schools in resort at a base rate of 38.00 euros per hours tuition’ said Giles Birch who established the British Ski Center with Jonathan Buzzard in winter 2002-3.

They aim not to set up just another ski school but also to offer a more personalised service to the clients. The ski instructors are qualified at the “Escuela Española de Esquí (E.E.E.)†and at the “Centro de Formación de Deportes de Invierno Sierra Nevada (C.E.D.I.)â€. The snowboard instructors are qualified at the Asociación Española de Snowboard (A.E.S.), at the Escuela Española de Snowboard (E.E.S.) and at the Centro de Formación de Deportes de Invierno Sierra Nevada (C.E.D.I.)

LAWRENCE WEINER, SIEMPRE Y UN DIA - CAC Malaga

“It´s the idea of cultures in movement, coming and going, and returning again. Culture is constant movement and that´s why I titled the exhibit FOREVER AND A DAY (SIEMPRE Y UN DIA). Depending on what country the viewer is from, my piece will say something different each time. Each individual brings something different inside themselves to the interpretation of the piece. They will never feel indifference. It´s just a matter of time,†explains the artist.

Nadal triumphant in epic Wimbledon Final - video

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Rafael Nadal finally beat Roger in the most anticipated Wimbledon tennis matches ever. In possibly the longest, most hard fought and entertaining All England Championship final of all time. The epic five-set victory, delayed and twice halted by rain, lasted almost seven hours – including nearly five hours of matchplay – and didn’t finish until 9.17. But the strain didn’t stop the new champion clambering over the commentary boxes and jumping into the royal box at his moment of victory to hug family and shake hands with Spanish royals.
