Spain Justice Minister Resigns
After increasing criticism from the opposition PP party The Spanish Jusice Minister, Mario Fernandez Bermejo, has resigned. This comes after he was reported spending part of the weekend hunting in the company of Judge Baltasar Garzon who is currently investigating corruption in the opposition party. The new minister is Francisco Caamaño.
EU Ultimatum to Spain
The EU has issued a final ultimatum to Spain over its current policy of refusing free healthcare to temporary visitors from the rest of Europe. The Spanish authorities have two months to answer the ultimatum, failure to respond or an unsatisfactory answer will lead to the European Court of Justice.

Giant Rabbits to Make Comeback
A Valencia man is attempting to breed giant rabbits of a type last seen in the area in 1912. The rabbits, which weigh between 5.5 and 7 kilos and are the size of a small lamb, were bred for meat and exported to Cuba, Argentina, Chile and around Europe. A few examples of the breed remain in farms in Buñol and Asturias.
Granada Approves City Centre Bike Routes
The Environment department of Granada ayuntamiento has approved the pedestrianisation of the city centre and the creation of a network of bike routes through the city. The decision is a reversal of the previous PP party administration proposal to exclude bike routes from the area.

Feria de la Tapa in Granada
Granada is to have its first tapas fair on March 20th and 21st. Various establishments in the city will take part, offering varied tapas at €2.50 including a drink.
Refunds from Endesa
Following the overcharging scandal by the electricity supplier, Endesa, the Junta de Andalucia have given the company one month to begin reimbursing all customers. Nobody will be required to make a claim for repayment and many who were unaware they had been overcharged will receive unexpected automatic refunds.
Pedestrianisation of Plaza de la Merced, Malaga
Malaga’s ayuntamiento has plans to pedestrianise part of the historic Plaza de la Merced, where the home of Pablo Picasso is situated. Budgets for the year include €1.3 million for refurbishing the square to return it to its late 19th century appearance.
Road Improvements in Malaga Province
The Junta de Andalucia is to carry out work to improve 80% of the A roads in the province this year. Over 1000 Kms of roads will be resurfaced, maintained and have accident prevention work done. The major part of the plan is the improvement of the A357 from Pizarra to Ardales.

Costa Del Sol beaches rebuilt for Easter
The beaches of the Costa del Sol are being rebuilt with new sand ready for the Easter holidays. The work is necessary following the destruction caused by the winter storms. The budget for the work is 2.1 million euros, and 300 cubic metres of sand will be used.
Marbella Art Festival in June
Marbella is to have its first international art festival during June 21st and 22nd. The Festival Internacional de Arte Marbella (FIAMAR) will feature the talents of around 50 artists, sculptors, photographers, etc in a series of street events on Avenida del Mar.
Football, La Liga
Malaga beat Valladolid 3-1 away at the weekend to go 6th in La Liga, into the European placings. The visiting team to La Rosaleda next Sunday at 5.00 pm is Recreativo de Huelva.
