The scams, swindles and legal loopholes of the tourist trade in the Costa Blanca will be shot dead in August by the BBC Holiday Hit Squad. They cover everything, from battles with airlines over delayed flights leaving passengers abandoned, insurance conflicts over broken bones, injuries caused by unsafe hotels and the nightmare caused by persistent building work. Hotel managers experience shocking moments as hidden horrors lurking in their establishments are exposed, such as outbreaks of food-poising, filthy accommodation and poor service.
Television viewers bored with glossy holiday videos get the chance to watch the nightmares of unfortunate holidaymakers, facing real life holiday dramas, victims of crime and sufferers of holiday ailments: jellyfish sting, bed bugs, cystitis, eczemas and then follow them into Spanish emergency departments.
In this innovative and “entertaining” programme the Holiday Hit Squad takes on the challenge of creating the best holiday on the same budget somewhere in the rest of the world.
Twofour has been commissioned to produce Holiday Hit Squad, a four part series for BBC One, presented by Angela Rippon, Helen Skelton and Joe Crowley. Holiday Hit Squad is executive produced by Andrew Mackenzie and Kevin Sutcliffe and series produced by Alison Kreps.
The programme is expected to challenge the popularity of the Channel 5 production “Benidorm ER”. The 6 x 60 minute series documented the stag and hen do injuries, alcohol-induced injuries and poolside tumbles of the British tourists on Costa Blanca. The programme aired in January and was ordered by C5’s commissioning editor Michelle Chappell, produced by Sarah Murch and her production company Blakeway North.
